BARBARA COHEN
Musicians Institute Songwriting/Artist Development Instructor Scores MTV Biopic “Pedro” And the PBS/P.O.V. Documentary “The Judge & The General”

Barbara Cohen teaches Songwriting and Artist Development at Musicians Institute (www.mi.edu), but she’s making her biggest professional mark these days as a film composer.

She recently scored two films that are gaining considerable notice. “Pedro,” a biopic about pioneering “Real World” cast member and widely-recognized HIV/AIDS activist Pedro Zamora, airs on Wednesday, April 1 on MTV (check local listings for time). Produced by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland (Quinceanera) and written by Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk), the premiere will be introduced by President Bill Clinton.

Cohen also scored the PBS/ P.O.V. film “The Judge & The General,” one of five documentaries (out of 2000 considered) to be nominated for this year’s Director’s Guild Award. The film tells the tale of Chilean judge Juan Guzmán, a former supporter of Augusto Pinochet who was assigned the first criminal cases against the ex-dictator. For more information, visit the PBS website (www.pbs.org) or Westwind Productions.

Since 1977, Musicians Institute (MI) has trained thousands of graduates for careers in every genre of contemporary music.
